Howdy fellow juicers! No massive ground-breaking epiphanies to impart today, just wanted to quickly stop by and give you kind and gentle folks a heads up on a few New Year's sales and Uber cool discounts. If you've frequented the site you'll remember the summer deals, well they just got sweeter. Essentially, there's some price breaks and sales tag slashes below on some favorite healthy juicing recipes classic coolness that really will blow your mind. So if any of the following concepts appeal to you this coming year...

saving cash,

shrinking a waistline,

finding a healthy diet,

increasing energy and vitality

upgrading your old, decrepit, rusted, cheap juicer

...read on. There are some deals here exclusive only to my humble site, and not to sound too informercially, they won't last long.

First off, if you need to finally grab or upgrade juicers, the Breville Juice and Blend is now exactly 25% - or $150.04 cheaper at Amazon. No, that's not a misprint. $150.00+ off the regular retail price! They are fully stocked, but my advice would be to stop procrastinating already and head there to grab yours before Breville comes to their senses. Folks, that juicer is just about the best available, trust me, I own it. It is a big, giant relief to you in the kitchen once you start juicing, for too many reasons to list here. That thing is the most useful and cool looking appliance I have in my kitchen. I've said it before, the Juice and Blend is to juicers as Bugatti is to automobiles.

The next great and wonderful New Year's deal, you ask? Mike at Truth About Abs is doing a solid for me - and offering his award winning program Truth About Abs for a trial period - for literally pennies. Click here if you have excess fat to lose or a shape to regain, because T.A.A. is quite simply a nutrition, fat loss, and abs sculpting Uber-program. Don't let the name fool you either, Mike's program is as much about proper diet and nutrition as it is about abs and how to get them. BTW ladies, Mike's program is as useful for you as it is to the fellas. Oh, and as it is with everything Mike does, T.A.A. completely guaranteed.

Last but certainly not least, the Diet Solutions sale is making a second appearance here at Ye' Ol' Juicing For Health blog. Diet Solutions program rarely has sales, so you should play the lottery tomorrow because this is obviously that "once in a Blue Moon" they've all been talking about. Considering the value contained within Diet Solutions, you can't go wrong even if you're a certified nutritionist. Unfortunately this New Year's bargain is only on until early February, so my advice is don't wait. I'm not joking when I say sale prices for DS are a rare and wonderful thing. Check out the info/ad block up and to the right side of this site, or simply click one of the links within this article. You'll find an informative free video that only takes a few minutes to absorb with 0 obligation to buy/enter emails/ or any other nonsense. There's really nothing much to say about the Diet Solutions program that Oprah, Hollywood stars galore, and millions of us regular folks haven't already emphatically stated. Diet Solutions is to health and nutrition as James Cameron is to big budget blockbuster movies. Not terribly long ago I completed a comprehensive review of the Diet Solutions - which was included in an international publication. I won't bore you with a reprint here, so just allow that I wholeheartedly approve of that program, and I have since it was developed. I use it almost verbatim within my own overweight client base, with great success.

So unless that bikini bod looks great already, and/or you already feel like a million or so bucks with energy to spare, click the links or the pix to the right, and get your booty in gear, yes?! Summer is past, the holiday eating binges over, and the ides of March loom, which means all of those unnecessary holiday calories will soon make your bikinis and swim trunks very cranky! In fact, put on that swimsuit or summer wear now, go to the mirror and ask yourself; "any spillage?" OR, skip your morning and mid-day coffee tomorrow, wait about 30 minutes, and ask yourself; "do I still have all the energy I need for today?" My guess is many of you could easily find some area that would benefit from a quality juicer and a great nutrition program. Health is far more than just a few visits to the gym after all.

Whatever your needs might be folks, get off that couch, away from that desk, and get healthy yes? Summer will come again, trust me on that. Funny thing is it happens every year. Prepare now and bask in a sea of awesome come June 1st. Even if you already look like a Calvin Klein model, your health is still vitally important. All your friends and family (and me!) want nothing but to see you more healthy, vibrant, and living a long, happy life. So take advantage of these New Year's price cuts if you need them, and get started on 2012 the right way!

Maybe that's because The Biggest Loser is a bloody popular show. Maybe it's because people are sick and tired of being sick and tired. Either way, I love it when I see that people are sincerely looking for solutions to their health issues.

Since I've only barely touched on the concept in the past, here's my effort to explain the co-relation between juicing and weight loss, as well as some truly groundbreaking advice on how to properly and effectively shed pounds.

We now set off to examine the ubiquitous question: Can juicing really help me to lose weight?

The one word answer is yes. However life is rarely summed up by a one word answer, as most of us know. The longer, more detailed relation between juicing and permanent weight loss is this: juicing is a lifestyle change and so much more than just a specific method of shedding pounds. Of course by beginning your journey with an Uber awesome juicer + a juice fast followed by the award winning 14 day raw food diet (as I've recommended in the past), 2 things will happen fast: 1) you will lose substantial water weight quickly, and 2) you will re-boot your metabolism quicker than NBC cancels good TV shows. It should also become obvious that when you replace all those daily sodas+high sugar+high calorie beverages with home made juices, you offer your body not only a significant reduction in empty calories, but a consistent, vital nutrient boost. Where juicing is concerned, it is more within the entire nutritional outlook you adopt that allows you lasting weight maintenance/reduction benefits. There isn't a juicer alive who fails to watch their nutritional intake a lot more closely after they adopt juicing in their life.

Within my most recent emails, folks are simply asking how best to lose weight quickly, regardless of how it's done. In fact I always get these emails within the few short months before summer, or close to the holidays. Funny how that is ;). It's actually not funny, it's pretty obvious that the beach body, shirtless and/or bikini summers really do loom large no matter what time of year. I'd dare say it's more important to be concentrating on nutrition and juicing during the holidays, since that's notoriously the time when we all over eat to amazing proportions. Well folks, if losing weight and/or getting ripped is your main focus - now or come summer - regardless the technique, the next few paragraphs are all but crucial to point you in the right direction(s) and help you get well on the way to lasting health and weight management.

One of the best products for weight loss online I know of is, of course, The Truth About Abs. Don't let the name fool ya, it's easily as effective a weight loss program as it is for getting ripped abs - and it's customized for both men and women. It's an overall health home run, really. I'm almost sure you have seen the ads for T.A.A. all over the net; in fact I have my own little ad on this blog, which wouldn't be here if I didn't totally approve of this system having used it in my own training system. This program is among the top selling weight loss and ab sculpting courses available online, with bloody good reason. Plainly as I can put it, this program shrinks the mid-section radically. I highly recommend you at least check it out. By clicking this link (or the tiny ad - up and to the right ;)) there's a limited and Uber cool trial offer available, with a complete 60 day 100% guarantee. Not to mention the offer itself is already dirt cheap (exclusive to my site) - because I happen to know the developer personally.

All I can say is if you are looking to lose belly fat, the Truth About Abs program works like gangbusters. It is absolutely proven to shed belly fat in a proper way - and not by scamming you into some medically questionable pill solution or some wacky "ab machine" (you know, those awful infomercial-esque, medieval looking gadgets)
.
For overall weight loss and a nutritional "rework", I can't even begin to describe the massive benefits you will find within The Diet Solution Program. (Yes << that's a "check it out" link ;)) D.S.P. is another online best seller that helps shed pounds fast and in a healthy way. If I'm not mistaken Diet Solution has bested some extremely popular nutrition programs in both '09 and '10 University health and nutrition studies. This system is so good many trainers adopt it as a staple for their own programs (me included).

Let me just qualify right now: I never steer my own clients or readers to anything that does not absolutely work when followed properly. My reputation is everything to me, both as a personal trainer and as a successful fitness writer. Quite simply, these two weight loss/nutrition programs are proven to be effective time and time again. I have seen both in action by implementing them within my own fat shredding programs as a personal trainer. In fact I dare say that most of my overweight clients, desperate to shed excess calories, have succeeded from a combination of myself, The Truth About Abs and The Diet Solution Program.

Having said all that, this is a juicing site, not a weight loss site. So here's what I say to anyone who has already decided to lose their weight through juicing: You should definitely begin your efforts with a juice fast. I have my own juice fasting and detox book, however it's exclusive - still - to a popular fitness magazine. Until I'm contractually released I can't promote it here on Ye' Ol' Juicing Recipes Blog. In the meantime if you want to find some very decent juice fasting programs there are some excellent books and manuals on the subject available at Amazon. For example, have a look at The Ten Day Master Cleanse for all the right answers on effective fasting techniques - complete with goodies ;). I have the included manual for reference in my own research library, and while it's not anywhere near as sexy as my own juice fasting program (biased much???) it does an excellent job walking anyone interested through a good and safe juicing fast.

To be blunt/realistic about the subject of weight loss, losing and keeping off the extra pounds is an effort that takes real commitment and a solid work ethic. If it was easy, well folks, we'd all be Calvin Klein models. The worst way to attempt weight loss lay in trying to do so without the proper tools. It is a good way to get depressed, frustrated, and eventually give up, and it's for those reasons why I've offered the tools and programs mentioned above. Those systems and products provide inexpensively exactly what you need to help ensure results will come from your effort, not disappointment or frustration. Simply put, they work, as the juicing lifestyle works, without a doubt. Specific to juicing, aside from the weight loss benefits, it is easily one of the healthiest, quickest, and easiest lifestyle changes you can make, nutritionally speaking. The changes in your energy level and vigor alone is worth every penny you spend on juicers. Plus if you're a Starbucks addict like my wife was, you'll pay for your quality juicer in two months by simply replacing those expensive lattes with home made juice. Don't believe me yet? Ask this guy.

In the music business there's an expression used when trying to trace an audio problem. I only know this because I've trained a few musicians, (so don't expect my new CD coming out soon lol ;)). The saying is this: Input Equals Output. Folks, never forget that, because it is pure genius when talking about health and weight maintenance. Coffee, Coke or Pepsi, whole milks ... well just think about what this stuff is doing to the inside of your body! Consider for a second just how much better your body will feel when it gets beneficial vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients, as opposed to empty calories and harmful narcotic and refined sugar substances such as caffeine, high fructose corn syrup,e.t.c... It's truly a no-brainer folks.

'Nuf said. You have what you need for an informed opinion (I hope). While you're looking over the links and posts above, below is my usual recipe addition. This one I often use for super fuel before a good work out. Hope you try it out!! (Add creatine to the mix if you're really hitting the gym hard)

Super Fuel

1/2 watermelon
1 lemon
5 oranges
1 can frozen pineapple concentrate

So Boxing Day is over yes? I hope you all survived the shopping day unscathed, and with some super awesome deals. With that thankfully behind you, and in case you need it on the days approaching, Juicing Recipes For Health has all the after Xmas eating, boozing, and partying hangover cures you'll ever need.

Read through this article and you'll be way ahead of the game, provided you have a great juicer and my super duper Uber-Awesome juicer recipes to put you back on track. Getting back on track may not seem important right now, but if you think about what's coming (New Years) you may want to spend the next few days juicing your brains out and eating the right foods, getting proper nutrition. Believe me, it will help you combat the oncoming parties in a big way. I say this knowing full well that with even the most disciplined health nut, New Years can be a serious challenge - what with office parties, house parties, lampshades on your head, karaoke hell, e.t.c...

Each and every New Years is a celebration that can end up with you ingesting a constant stream of alcohol, along with any number of sugary appetizers and a massive Meal Of Doom. So I've put on my white coat, gone into the Juicing For Health labs, and constructed the following recipes that will help you detox from what's already been a Xmas of excess. There's 2 days between now and New Years, so have each recipe twice (if possible) each day.

Like I said, ultimately you want to pound each juice combination back twice per day - once in the morning and once between lunch and dinner. If you can't pull that off, at least make sure you get the concoctions in once each day. The last "formula" will help you just as much after the New Years onslaught. A penultimate hangover cure, that last recipe is an excellent replacement for all the B and C vitamins that you lose thanks to the demon alcohol. Again, take your super awesome Breville Juicer (hint hint), combine these first 3 recipes for a great immediate detox, and make the last one on New Years Day when you're head feels like it will explode. Run with this folks, and come January 2, 2012, you'll thank me. :)
That said, a diet that is consistently filling your body with superfoods can certainly make you feel like you could stop bullets and run faster than a speeding train. When you add any of these foods to your efforts of juicing recipes for health, you can be assured to get the biggest bang for your buck every time you fire up your super awesome juicer.

The term superfood is often used to denote foods with high phytonutrient content. Phytonutrients - or phytochemicals - are those happy little chemical compounds that are found in plants and certain vegetables, the ones that give us the edge on sickness and disease. They have been used for medicinal purposes since time began. Salicin – for example – is a phytochemical that has proven anti-inflammatory (thus pain relieving) qualities. It can be found in the bark of certain Willow Trees. Now don't go running out to the yard for a Willow Tree to chop down and juice, I just thought that was a neat fact to add. Really, leave the trees alone.

I'm not here to give you a history lesson, or wax philosophical on the wonders of homeopathy, (and no, there won't be a test later ;)), but it is good to know that phytonutrients have been long held as a magic bullet in fighting the various physical problems we all face in life. To hammer the benefits of phytonutrients home, the phytochemicals found in fruits and plants have been linked to a reduced risk of cancer, cardio-vascular illness, and known to lessen the severity of common ailments such as colds and flus. This is all due to the antioxidant, fibrous, and anti-inflammatory properties they can manifest in us kind and gentle folks.

This is a smattering of phytonutrients, along with the food items that produce them:

Dillapoile – Dill

Carvavrol – thyme, oregeno.

Quercetin – cranberries, apples, tea and wine, beans

Apiole – parsley

Myricetin – grapes, walnuts.

Of course the list could go on but needless to say; remember all those foods that people in the know have constantly recommended to you? Well the reason they keep on about it is - in large part - due to the phytochemical content found in such foods, and their knowledge of just how much your body can benefit from such a gift of nature.

The bottom line when it comes to superfoods is: they are loaded with good calories, often times packing an amazing amount of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, phytonutrients, in a very small package. In other words, a loaf of white bread is to superfood as etch and sketch is to art.

To get the most from your juicing for health program(s) I've compiled a list of potential superfoods that can easily be added to your vegetable/fruit juices. While they won't make you feel compelled to change into tights at the nearest phone booth, they will boost your immune system markedly and have you feeling an excess of good mental and physical energy.

JUICING SUPERFOODS:

Berries: this includes anything from cranberries to blueberries, blackberries, acai berries, goji berries. Basically if it's a berry and you can handle the taste, throw it in your next juicing recipes for health concoction.

Greens: chorella, spirulina, spinach, turnip, collards, beets, anything you would consider as lettuce (romaine and green leaf) broccoli, broccoli (yes, I said it twice on purpose because it is THAT good for you), kale, alfalfa, barley.

Sea Borne Veggies: kelp, wakame, kombu, dulce.

Wheatgrass: Wheat-grass is in it's own category simply because as super-foods go, wheat-grass is a frikin rock star. Look for future posts where I will detail some awesome wheat-grass juicing techniques and juicing recipes.

Honey: Again, on it's own for emphasis. If wheat-grass is the Bentley of super-foods, honey is the Lamborghini. I'm not talking about typically store bought and pasteurized honey, I'm talking the real deal RAW honey, that is sold in most organic stores worth a salt. It seems that Winnie the Pooh knew what he was on about, because honey has antibacterial qualities, and some honeys are known for antimicrobial properties. It's been found useful for digestion, bronchitis, and some even swear that honey can get you better gas mileage. (OK, that last bit was a joke) In juices, honey is the great equalizer, since it can make the most disagreeable vegetable tasty in it's own right.

Whether you're here looking for advice on juicing for weight loss, overall health, or just because you love the noise your Uber cool machine makes, sometimes the topics here can get a tad convoluted on first glance.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Here's the thing; I could give up recipes here all day long, without any discussion on the lifestyle that should revolve around your juicing goals, but in doing so I'm just the becoming the same cookie cutter site as every other web address involved around juicing. Don't get me wrong, the other sites have a place (some more than others) but there's nothing useful at all in me just being a parrot. Plainly, to keep my promise to you, occasionally I have to touch on the other areas in life that should be of paramount importance to anyone involved in juicing.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
But don't fear, today I won't be rattling on about sit ups, yoga, or meditation. Today is strictly a juicing recipes fiesta! Besides, I have already written a great post that properly explains why I'm constantly on about so much other than juicing - you can stop back tomorrow to read it. But now, without further adieu, here's a whole heap of great juices and information on the main players in your kitchen and juicer. Check in tomorrow folks, more good stuff abounds 'round here. :)
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Well as it turns out, nature has you covered since apples happen to be natures version of Sweet and Low - they are natural flavor enhancers, and can make the most offensive veggie combination taste like your favorite after-workout cocktail. So when you're juicing and having issues with a bitter/boring/blah veggie taste, apples are your friend.
We all know by now that the liver is the body's filtering system yes? As well, many doctors who treat alcoholism have recommended drinking beet juice on the regular. Not that we're all party animals or hapless booze hounds (and I mean no offense to the seriousness of alcoholism), but adding beets to a recipe gives your liver a flak jacket. (*Milk thistle is also known for it's protective properties where the liver is concerned)
Beets are also great for PMS. If you have harsh PMS or if you're a significant other in aggressive psychiatric therapy due to you're wifes' PMS, that article is biblical. Carrot juice is almost identical to the structure of blood! Betchya didn't know that! Carrots are ubiquitous in the juicing for health lifestyle. I'd venture to say that they're the most commonly juiced vegetable of any. They are considered the most nutritious veggies on the planet, with good reason. Carotene exists in no other food in such quantities. (Hence the name "carrot") Aside from that carrots are loaded with pectin, vitamin C, potassium and fluorine. When juiced, carrots have a sweet taste as well, and great filler for any juice.

Do I really need to keep mentioning that you need to wash these things? Anyways, juice 2 carrots, the entire beet, using the remaining 2 carrots to push the lettuce and spinach through the juicer. *It's not necessary to use the carrots to push through your leafy stuff if you own an awesome and Uber great juicer with many fantastic helpful tools. Need I say more? OK. These beans are chock full of vitamin K, which aids blood clotting. Vitamin K has also been linked as helping prevent osteopenia and osteoporosis, and is a combatant against colon cancer. So when you see string beans sitting at your local organic produce section, grab some and juice them (and add them to your meals often).
Future posts will continue detailing the fruits and veggies you should be regularly consuming. Not wishing to bore you with self promotion, but in my upcoming book there's a very detailed nutritional breakdown on many of these "main players" - along with more juicing recipe options for getting these Uber foods into your body via the almighty juice machine.
A big whopping grateful hello is in order to all my fair and gentle readers, especially considering the news of yet another tragedy still unfolding in the world. Seeing these things occur to good people makes me extremely humbled that I can sit here behind my desk and reach out to my peeps without worrying about being carted away in some giant wave.

Just as a heads up, you may or may not receive this post in your email (depending on the type of subscription you opted to receive).

I thought it would be appropriate to get in touch with you all and offer up a link to the American Red Cross page at the "causes" site, where they are currently gathering support to help the wonderful people in Japan who need help right now. The site can be accessed here, below (click the red cross picture), or by visiting http://www.causes.com/campaigns/154523.

I strongly urge you to consider clicking through and donating what you can to the relief effort. The people of Sendai and other areas affected are only now beginning the long process of cleaning up.

Having personally experienced the terror and awesome devastation of both a 7.8 earthquake in Taipei, and the 2004 Tsunami while vacationing in Phuket, Thailand, I am a perfect candidate to testify - there isn't much in the way of natural disasters that can wreak such havoc and destruction, on such a large scale, so quickly. It truly is shocking and heartbreaking to watch unfold. In Japan there's now an added strain, in that a nuclear reactor is in jeopardy of failing, so the circumstance truly is dire and unpredictable.

The kind folks in Japan are among the nicest and most stoically graceful people on our planet. They work hard and they live, love, and laugh just like we do. Most importantly - as of today they are a severely injured populous and need assistance from the rest of the world. That means you and I.

I would love to have included that video here, but alas, MSN doesn't play as nicely as youtube for embedding video. So folks, please head over to either the MSN report, or Joe's site and check out an amazing juicing for weight loss victory. It's just bloody inspiring.

Thought I would drop by and offer you a truly insightful video that chronicles one man's study into longevity.

Since one benefit of juicing for health means that us folks, with our enzymes, vitamins, minerals, phyto-nutrients, antioxidants,e.t.c... are at a statistical advantage when it comes to living long and healthy lives, I've become more and more interested in the study of longevity in general. In the video that follows you can find a truly mind bending study into just how longevity can be achieved.

So without more of my incessant rambling ;), let me introduce Dan Buettner. Dan has studied longevity from a very unique point of view for quite some time. He's a writer for National Geographic and has spent a great deal of time traveling the world, seeking out those populations who seem to defy time and live thriving into their 90's and beyond - to record breaking ages. Essentially he finds the oldest and healthiest people on earth and studies their nutrition habits, their communal habits, basically anything and everything that might give us clues as to how they do it.

He and his team study the world's "Blue Zones" Blue Zone being the phrase his team coined to describe communities whose elders live with vim and vigor to record-setting age. In this video (taken at TEDxTC), he shares the 9 common diet and lifestyle habits that keep age defying elders spry past age 100.

Enjoy!

A big warm and fuzzy hello to all my fair and gentle readers! Hope you all liked my Longevity "series". There will be more for that series a bit later in the month, as I've come to love the subject thanks to Ray Kurzweil. If you haven't heard of Ray (or seen him on TV) he is the board certified resident guru in the world of life extension and longevity. His website kurzweilai.net is worth an extended visit. My guess is after one glance you'll bookmark him, google him, and study his musings for hours, because his vision of the future of health and longevity is truly <strike>inspiring</strike>, <strike>fantastic</strike>, creepy.

This guy is some kind of mad scientist/genius. If you're too tired (from working out - hint hint) to click, just watch enough Discovery Channel or CNN, surely you'll see him pop up from time to time with some sort of awe inspiring invention or breakthrough.

As for my world today, I've no major juicing for health epiphanies to impart since I'm currently reviewing a few branded juicers (you'll see the reviews soon). I did however spend some time surfing and caught the video linked below, which you should consider watching from front to back (it's only 6 minutes). It is an excellent mini education on the benefits of juicing for health, from a seminar in London. I've been to a few health seminars in my tenure, and some are about as useful as a bunny rabbit in an bull fight, however this "seminar guy" (for lack of a more fitting description ;)) seems to know what he's on about when it comes to nutrition and juicing.

I should warn you that the audio is <strike>fairly lame</strike> VERY lame - as it was recorded from a hand held, without a doubt. So you might wanna turn it slightly up, or wear headphones. Also, at about 2:40 seconds in, watch out for someone coughing directly into the microphone, because it almost gave me a heart attack :(). Aside from that, if things like macro and micronutrients make you feel all warm and fuzzy and your heart skips a beat, this one's definitely for you.

Cheers!

100+ years young. Longevity at work folks!

Juicing for health. Let's examine that phrase for a second. I mean, why do we juice? Is it because we love the sound of our wonderful counter top machines? No. (some cheap juicers sound like muscle cars with broken mufflers) Is it because we love to see veggies and fruits getting sliced and diced like wood in a wood chipper? No, although it really does look kinda cool during the first few weeks. :). Is it for the taste? Possibly, but the truth is any supermarket juice can taste great as well, and buying a jug of store bought OJ is perhaps easier than making your own. So in truth, aside from the taste, pretty much the only good reason for adopting a juicing lifestyle is because we seek the many health benefits from the creations we make in our wonderful machines.

The question then becomes, is juicing for health enough? Answer: of course not. If we are truly to achieve longevity and true long term health benefits, juicing becomes a single piece in the longevity and health puzzle. There are certain things we humans have to do on the regular to keep the body as primed as possible, things that have nothing to do with Doritos, TV addictions, or Pizza Hut (even though that would be just awesome). The point being that if we are juicing, we should also be eating only the right foods, getting up and moving with a dose of daily exercise, and making sure to get proper rest. Otherwise, I may as well be sending you a Twinkies/chocolate/Haagen Dazs juicing recipe today. ;)

Now, depending on your goals, getting and staying as healthy as possible can either be rocket science, or as simple as 2+2=4. For example, someone whose singular fitness goal is to look like a cast member from 300 has made a much larger commitment to weight lifting than someone who just wants their internal organs to stop melting. For most of us, we fall somewhere in between a photo spread in Muscle and Fitness magazine and a couch potato. That being said, all fitness goals boil down to optimizing the same 3 areas of health in order to achieve their desired results. These areas are:

Fitness and exercise

Nutrition

Quality rest

For some of you, I just pulled another "Captain Obvious" moment by stating what should be elementary. But for some, I really do have to mention the necessity and equal importance of these 3 areas, since there truly are kind folks who misguidedly expect to become the next Lance Armstrong just from juicing for health, or from working out incessantly. Case in point: a 20 something man who comes to our gym every day, works out for at least 90 minutes every time, just finished complaining about having been diagnosed with high blood pressure. After talking with him for a few minutes my partner and I learned that he eats anything and everything, using salt and sugar with reckless abandon. I know what you're thinking, and no, this guy was not dropped on his head as a child. He just simply never grasped the golden rule that overall health involves more than bench presses and squats. In fact you'd be surprised how many people assume that a good daily workout cancels out the need to eat properly.

At any rate, to cut a long and preachy post short, if you really want to get the most from your juicing for health lifestyle, please don't just stop at juicing. Take 45 minutes each day to get active. Do an abs workout, sit down and crank out 45 minutes of rowing. Go down the street to the gym and play a game of squash with your buddy. (BTW, squash is a blast, try it). Get a proper, award winning, and extremely beneficial nutrition program like The Diet Solutions and follow the steps and guides. And after each day make sure you wind down appropriately, relax, do some meditation, and sleep 8 hours. If sleep is a problem for you (it has been for me lately) there's a well known blog called Insomnia Cures. Head over there to learn about a myriad of natural cures and treatments for sleeplessness. I can't stress enough how important sleep is to maintaining proper health. So overlooked, the restorative power of sleep is just as important as nutrition and exercise.

If you're on the fence about making that final step towards personal Uber-greatness, just look around here and examine the sites I promote. They are here only because I absolutely trust in their ability to make getting you in shape fun, exciting, and certainly NOT rocket science. They all work like gangbusters. Truth About Abs is the cats meow. It's like working out, only awesome. Diet Solutions takes confusion over calories and proper diet, and squashes it like a bug. Amazon? Come on folks, really. Amazon sells everything, and usually at insanely low prices.

If you are juicing for health and not going the extra mile, start now. No, seriously. Right now. It's February already folks, one month gone. 2011 should not be about wasting more time before you get to it. So take the plunge folks! Longevity is a reachable goal.

Cheers!

There are so many positive health benefits from the ingestion of this substance in your juicing for health lifestyle that it could really boggle the mind. For me to say it's nutritious is a massive understatement. To say it is helpful to cleanse and detox your body is like saying a new Ferrari is useful for driving the speed limit. If I were to tell you that it's extremely helpful in weight control and weight loss, again, it barely illuminates the awesome benefits of this super-food. In fact, if I were to say that wheat-grass is one of the healthiest substances on earth, it wouldn't be an exaggeration at all.

Let's just examine some of uses for wheat-grass juice:

19 amino acids (yep, you read that right... 19!)

chlorophyll (read on to find out why chlorophyll basks in a sea of awesomeness)

minerals (over 90, in high concentrations, including the heavy-hitter alkaline minerals such as calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium)

vitamins (can anyone say "way to go Captain Obvious"?)

enzymes (protease, transhydrogenase, cytochrome Oxidase, lipase, e.t.c...)

If 1 ounce of this wonderful substance equals 1+ kg of green veggies, more even than a full serving of Popeye's favorite muscle grower, then seriously, what more is there to say to convince you to run out THIS SECOND and buy a wheat-grass juicer to get your act in gear? Wait though, because 1. You can get a quality wheat-grass juicer right here on Ye Old Juicing Recipes For Health site (at seriously discounted prices); and 2. of course I still have more to say... any of my regular readers have already figured out that I am nothing if not consistently mouthy. :)

So you may be asking, what else can some frikin' grass do for my health? Ha. So much more, my fair and gentle reader, so much. This super-food assists in the production of red blood cells, and those little suckers are the entire body's oxygen delivery system, your very own molecular version of the UPS guy. So needless to say that oxygenating every organ you have will combat fatigue during exercise, as well as shore up your defenses against those pesky little environmental issues like pollution and carbon monoxide.

Also, some of you may remember high school, when you first learned about this thing called haemoglobin. If not, haemoglobin is the iron-containing oxygen-transport metalloproteins in the red blood cells of all vertebrate. (Thanks Wikipedia ;)) What high school didn't teach you, (at least not my high school) is that chlorophyll is just about identical to haemoglobin under a microscope. What this means is that our body's engine finds it markedly easy to transform chlorophyll into haemoglobin and offer our system a serious increase in red blood cells, and as a result, oxygenation.

Is there anything not technical to be said for chlorophyll, and why it is to health as a Fender Stratocaster was to Jimmy Hendrix? Yes. Put it this way, chlorophyll normalizes blood pressure, it energizes the body via alkalizing the blood, and it is like a smart bomb attack on environmental issues such as pollution, that can make us unhealthy just from simple proximity.

Can you say "amino acids" 5 times fast?
Amino acids, to be Captain Obvious yet again, are what builds protein, which in turn helps muscle and cell growth as well as maintenance. Need I say more? Not really, but I will. Wheat-grass is a thorough and complete protein source, and this is why many athletes juice it daily.

Plainly I could go on and on, as I said, a novel would cover it's benefits; maybe. It helps fight and cover our butts against illness, acting as our immune system's very own can of Red Bull. It detoxifies the body, cleaning out our system of free radicals, these tiny tyrants being the mortal enemy of longevity. It helps your digestive system break down and eliminate toxic waste. It clears up and elasticizes the skin. In fact, soon enough I'm gonna head into the juicing for health labs and experiment on using wheat-grass to fuel rocket ships to Mars. What I'm saying is that there are such a myriad of benefits from juicing wheat-grass that to NOT be juicing it regularly is doing a great disservice to your own quest for improved health and longevity.

So where do I get wheat-grass and how do I juice it?
The questions abound at this point. Many of you might be wondering "where do I get wheat-grass?"; "Does it grow on my front lawn?"; "How do I get that good stuff in my body most effectively?". The short and not so brilliant answer is to grab a supplement. A few of the organic and reputable brands can be found here and here. Having said that, supplements are a silver medal to wheat-grass juicing Gold, second place to actually grabbing your own grass (from any health food store worth it's salt) and juicing it in a juicer specifically designed for the purpose. And of course, you can grow your own wheat-grass with very little effort, in your own kitchen.

Your normal veggie and fruit juicer likely won't juice wheat-grass effectively, for reasons I won't get into here. Some of the best grass juicers might be available at certain appliance stores; maybe. In some parts of the universe they can be hard to find, minus a special order. Amazon has a few excellent Wheat-grass juicers, both manual and electric. The best I've found, and the one that sits in my own kitchen (right next to my Uber cool Breville) is the Omega J8004 Nutrition Center. You would do well to click that preceding link, or head here and grab one, since you can save $81.00 (or 24%) from the retail price, as opposed to buying from the store down the road. Here's some pictures of manual and electric wheat-grass juicers, with click-able links for more info.

It's not really of import to me where or how you grab your grass juicers, I make literally pennies from selling this stuff on my site. My biggest concern is that you see the vast benefits wheat-grass will offer your juicing for health lifestyle, and you get up off your butt and grab the tools you need for your very own daily dose of Uber-Super-food.
The new year is the perfect time for renewed energy and for focusing on overall health improvements.

Today's post marks the first in a series I'm completing that really explains the benefits of juicing for health and for why it can be a critical component to helping yourself maintain an energetic and vital life.

And so we arrive at the colon (yes, that is possibly the most disturbing sentence ever). I'll say it before you... "ewww gross". Admittedly, the colon is not the most attractive conversation topic, and certainly one to avoid at the dinner table, or upon any surprise visits by the Queen. Nonetheless, understanding how critically important the colon is to proper health is of utmost importance to anyone searching for health and longevity. So at the risk of being, yes, "ewww gross", it's a subject necessary to touch on occasionally or I'm not doing my job.

THE COLON:
The colon is such an under appreciated system in the body, even by the most health oriented people. Having said that, understanding why it's important to keep the colon in tip top shape is a simple matter of understanding that any issues and problems with digestion can be of paramount importance to maintaining continuing good health, and that any problems in this area can be extremely dangerous to a person's longevity and health efforts.

The colon is the place where waste and toxic matter is gathered before being evacuated from the body, so having a colon that can properly absorb nutrients and then pass the remaining waste is extremely necessary. Without the colon operating at it's peak capacity, the risk of poisons remaining in the body is present, causing a condition known as auto-intoxication as the body is forced to reabsorb the harmful materials that accumulate. This occurs when the remaining waste is absorbed by the colon walls and redistributed through your body, through the bloodstream, damaging almost every organ in one way or another.

A JUICING COLON CLEANSE:
At this point I could go on and on about the functions of the colon, but it's of no real consequence to getting the help you may need. Anyone in their right mind should understand by now how critical a properly working colon is to your quest for better health. In order to ensure your colon is being taken care of, it's always smart to occasionally commit to a colon cleanse, and one extremely beneficial therapy for a clean and well performing colon is by juicing certain vegetables and fruits. By applying various juicing recipes for health you can offset any potential issues as the phytonutrients and enzymes in juices do their work flushing your colon of poisons and putrefied waste.

Aside from just vegetables, fruits such as lemon, lime, apples, e.t.c... are also known as very effective foods for colon cleansing.See the below guide.

There is a few qualifications to properly juicing for a colon cleanse, the most important being that you must always drink your juice fresh, as soon as possible after making it. Any long exposure to air oxidizes the juice and destroys important enzymes. This rule is basically important to juicing in general, not just for helping to heal the colon. Having said that, the enzymes present in fresh juices are critical to a proper colon cleanse. This is why you often see any juicing enthusiast drinking his recently made concoctions within moments of making and pouring. Enzymes and phytochemicals are considered the most important elements and benefits from juicing, so it's only natural to assume that storing your juice - thus allowing air exposure to hurt the juicing for health benefits - will have less of a positive and desired end result for your efforts.

WHY FIBER?:
This should be a pretty short explanation, since it's an easy concept to grasp. Fiber is the part of a food that cannot be digested, and as such, as it passes through the digestive system it acts as your very own personal roto-rooter. It is to your intestines as the broom is to a dirty kitchen floor. As fiber passes through your body it gathers and moves along many poisons, toxins, and other wholly unnecessary crud from the body. An excellent source of fiber is by eating raw and unpeeled fruits whenever possible.

WHAT WORKS:
The following veggies and fruits have been shown to provide the most benefits to a colon cleanse. Once a juicing therapy is decided upon, juices made from these vegetables should be consumed twice daily, for the length of your colon cleanse:

Vegetables:

beets, carrots, sprouts, artichokes, eggplant, kale, capsicum

Fruits:

kiwi, mango, pineapples, papaya, apples (skin intact), lemon or lime

As juicing recipes go, any combination of the above foods will work to assist a colon cleanse, providing you the best chance to get it right and help your colon do it's job properly. I find that by experimenting with some or all of the above I can usually end up with a combination that tastes fantastic as well as being extremely beneficial. If your pallet has any aversion to the above foods, try adding honey to the recipe. Honey is a certified Uber cool super food, and good for you no matter how you get it in your system. It usually makes just about anything taste good and for some reason it's very effective as a flavor enhancer in juices.

There are other fruits and vegetables out there that are beneficial to a colon cleanse, the above is just a basic starting point. If you are considering a serious colon cleanse in the near future, keep an eye out for my new book. Within the pages is a detailed 10 day colon cleanse, complete with a daily walk-through to make it as easy as possible to accomplish the cleanse.

Below is a short video that explains a few things regarding a proper colon cleanse. The lady in the vid certainly doesn't provide any real clarity, in fact it's almost entirely useless as a guide to cleansing, but the tiny bit of advice she does provide is of import and should be considered before you start. Cheers!
It's almost time for the infamous New Year's Resolutions. Just about zero hour anyway, minus this one more yearly hurdle to leap. While it's still one day away for us, interestingly enough in Asia and Australia right now people are already finishing up their parties and after parties. Yes right now they are well ahead of us, looking forward to logging on to Ye' Old Wonderful Juicing Recipes site for their new juicers, they're also laying out clothes for their first New Year's workout, quitting smoking, taking up sky diving, petting small furry animals, joining the Peace Corps, e.t.c... Meanwhile we haven't even picked out a shirt for tonight's festivities.

However, the Asian example will pale in comparison to us tomorrow, certainly. Yes? Busily, like my friends in Singapore and Melbourne are doing right now, you'll be reading off your resolutions, adding positive affirmation notes to the bathroom mirror, making those calls to your favorite personal trainer, putting all the Twinkies in the rubbish bin, doing your first round of Plyometric/jump training.... OK, OK. Not. Not most of you anyway. And I certainly won't be that daft either, to be honest. Since I am an official juicing enthusiast/fitness nag for 364 days per year, on New Years Eve even I get the night off. So I'm likely to be wearing the same lamp shade on my head that you'll be sporting, which means the morning after could be a rough one all the way around.

Looking at things realistically - on the first day of 2011, we'll all quite probably be easing out of bed very methodically, avoiding sunlight, noise, sudden movement, and any floor debris that was collected from the previous night's shenanigans. The good news is this: in your kitchen is your friend "the juicer", and within the magic of that mechanism - combined with your vegetable crisper contents - lay a cure for the pounding head, along with the nausea and general happy-crappy feeling most of us will be suffering.

Of course you know this already because you read my last article, yes? In case you missed it I gave up a juicing recipe secret from my book, one that gives you the biggest advantage for getting rid of a nagging hangover. Look below, I'll put it up again here for ease of access. In fact I'll post it identically twice below, so that on the off chance you are still seeing double come January 1, you can just close one eye, pick the recipe you still see, and pop the ingredients into your juicer. Will even make a slight variation of the recipe so that it holds maximum taste, maximum amounts of B and C vitamins, and the least amount of effort to your weary, post "party all night long" body.

I've already made my own Resolution for the coming year, just so you know. It's my goal to help every person reading this site healthier than ever before, using juicing techniques, fitness and meditation tips that have been handed down to me from Greek Gods, Batman, and Chuck Norris. Yes, that's right, Chuck Norris. (OK I'm, kidding, Chuck was busy) Having said that I'm certainly not going to muddle your time now whinging and moaning about what vegetables should be in your fridge, nor what runners to buy for jump training and Pilates. Yes fair and gentle reader, Juicing Recipes for Health will patiently wait for a few days so you can get ALL your ducks in a row, lay out those resolutions, steel your resolve, and prepare yourself for the healthiest year of your life. This coming year we will make it happen, but in the meantime there is some serious partying to expedite.

So we'll see you in a few days! Oh and BTW, please, PLEASE be extremely careful on the roads. The weather has been miserable enough this year for most of us. Having said that, within this next 24 hours (as you well know) there could be a fair share of lunatics on the road without the proper common sense to NOT drink and drive. We don't need to figure out a juicing recipe for a cracked skull, thanks to some knucklehead drunk driver. Got it?! So take a taxi (or a dogsled depending on the weather), but be sure to have boat loads of fun this New Year!!

I hope everyone is having the most perfect season of joy, spending quality time with family, all while maintaining a proper juicing schedule. (I had to say it :))

Juicing Recipes For Health (that's me btw ;)) is painstakingly assembling my incredibly elaborate Christmas tree right now in the living room, before the folks get home and my mother in law arrives from Colorado. Without a doubt I will be making Mom a tasty Xmas juice, complete with tons of special eggnog (so she falls asleep early). That last bit is between you and I, ok?

My current dilemma is this bloody Xmas tree I purchased. It's one of those expensive fake numbers I picked up at a specialty store, and it seriously takes a course in rocket science to properly stand upright. I'd have better luck solving global warming, or so I'm quickly coming to understand. So far it looks like "The Leaning Tower Of Tree", and it's just depressing. Instructions would have been nice, considering the 17,428 moving parts I'm to assemble. Instructions, or a coupon for the therapy I'll eventually need when I give up on the whole affair. I'm joking of course, I'm sure it will be assembled perfectly... once my 12 year old gets home and takes over. ;)

At any rate, I won't bore you with any more admissions of my lack of mechanical skill. What I will do is give you a present of sorts. Thought I'd take a minute to post a video for you all on this wonderful holiday season, because each and every fellow juicing enthusiast among us really should see the latest, greatest, veritable "cat's meow" of juicers, one of the new models of Breville Juicers.

This particular model is the "Dual Disc Juice Processor BJE820XL", which reads more like something you might say when you're fixing a transmission. As an aside, really Breville, come up with some catchy model names already! Enough with the numbers! OK, rant over. The really awesome thing about this new line is that it juices fruits and veggies with equal prowess. Basically it's the bomb, and I better get one for Christmas. (Said that last part because my wife reads this site too :))

Enjoy the video folks, and if - per chance - the juicer featured makes you want to weep with sheer holiday joy (as I did), click on the little juicer picture here at Ye Ol' Juicing Recipes For Health. (You'll find the pic at the top right corner of the site) The click - added to the wonderment of technology - will whisk you away to a showcase for the better version of the juicer in the video below. The better version is called... wait for it... the "Breville Dual Disc Juice Processor BJE840XL". Yes, I'm shaking my head at yet another model number. Breville, It's a juicer for crying out loud, not a drive shaft replacement. I digress, once more. :)

At any rate, while I go back to struggle with the physics exam that is my Xmas tree, Happy Holidays everyone, be extremely careful on the roads, and I sincerely wish you all the best in the coming New Year!

Orange Eggnog Sans Alcohol!

Ingredients:

2 eggs, separated

2 Tbsp sugar

2 Cups chilled orange juice

1-1/2 Tbsp lemon juice

1/2 Cup milk

Pinch salt

Nutmeg

How It's Done:

First, beat the egg yolks until thick. So now, after the 2500 + calorie turkey/ham/stuffing/sweet potato pie/pumpkin pie (e.t.c...) feast, comes the inevitable bloated stomach, the guilty feelings, the shame, the unavoidable trips for cognitive therapy, and the months of tears and self loathing. I'm kidding of course, if you feel that bad about some extra calories, the Thanksgiving feast has nothing to do with it. At any rate, make sure that no matter how guilty you may feel after pigging out, you jump right back into your favorite juicing recipes and get juicing for health again.

The truth is that Thanksgiving is the 1 time of the year when it's OK to scoff and throw down at the dinner table. The more you stuff in your tummy, the cooler you are. That's a rule. Really, it is. I think it's actually an International Bylaw, and written in the constitution. I've even heard that you can actually lose your facebook account if you don't eat like a pig on Thanksgiving. Could be mistaken, of course, but my point is simple; don't feel too guilty about the scoff you've just participated in, but DO keep something very close in your minds people, cuz there's a few bumpy roads coming right up.

THE BAD NEWS?
Sorry folks, but if I don't point this out not many others will, at least from now until New Years + 1. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the holiday excess, just make sure you also take the time to juice your brains out and do your exercises regularly, in any way possible. Which brings me to why I wrote this...

As most of you already know, personal training is kinda my day job, and my juicing lifestyle is a very important supplemental nutrition requirement to that job. So because I happen to be quite "in the know" (so to speak) on matters of exercise and nutrition (i.e. what works and doesn't work), I thought I would pester you guys to grab a fitness program and a diet solution if you haven't already committed to such helpful health blueprints. What follows are 2 of the secrets I've used throughout the years with a great deal of success, both of which can be utilized fully without costly gym memberships and all those arrogant personal trainers that look like Jersey Shore cast offs. First entry in a while, but believe me it's not by choice. I had a brilliant time over the last few months consulting at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, where I saw and interacted with so many young up and coming athletes. Speaking of which, I'm giving you a heads up now by saying keep an eye out, because there's a few youngsters now that will be superstars in professional sports soon. I watched records broken and hearts swell at these games, and it literally left me feeling as though there may be hope for humanity yet.

FACTOID: A bit off topic, but if you've never been to Singapore, believe me the city is nothing short of breathtaking. And the food is ... well... you just have to go there to experience how good it is. Come to think of it, ALL of Malaysia and definitely every inch of Japan should be required travel. The culture and vastness of sights will take your breathe away, and once you've visited you will understand why the concept of Zen was developed in that region. These countries are worth entries into your "List of Places To See Before I Die". Truly.

At any rate, the point is that the travel left me completely unable to update this site much at all, and I say that with my humble apologies. Still, I have to admit my time in Asia was nothing short of brilliant.

So anyways, I just wanted to pop in quickly and say hey, guess what? It's Black Friday and it's coming up fast! All in all, my little foray into the world of juicing has received various awards and accolades, and has already sold almost 80 000 copies in literally no time. But alas, I had signed a contract with the devil many moons ago, keeping it an exclusive item on one very popular and very strict fitness magazine. The horror! But then if you're a regular on my site I've told you most of this before. Well, I'm nothing if not redundant :)

Having said that, after many delays and contract negotiations, I can almost assuredly begin offering the book here starting in December (around the 15th!) It was scheduled for July, but alas, when you dance with the devil... well you know the rest ;). Hey wait a sec... a December release? Perfect timing for Xmas, and my-oh-my, there's massive amounts of Christmas juicing recipes inside my little book on the web. Hmmm... Coincidence, or marketing genius? Being in review mode, this time I'll take a few moments to recommend and review a set of books that would best compliment the Breville juicer (hopefully you have one by now :)).

In past articles I've preached to high heaven the value of The Juicing Bible, and a guest poster has even thrown 0.02 cents into that praise, so this time I'll focus on another set of juicing manuals, books that go a little deeper into recipes, and the benefits behind them. I'm talking about the Juicing For Life 8 pack.

These books are encyclopedic in their reference text and in the explanations of why juicing is so bloody healthy. They also go into great detail to explain how certain juice concoctions help some serious medical conditions - such as diabetes, high blood pressure, e.t.c... They even have specific juicing recipes statistically shown to help various kinds of cancer. All in all, if you're getting serious about juicing, this 8 pack of books is the penultimate guide to have, sitting right along side your shiny, uber sexy juicer.

Here are some other testimonials I've gathered from around the www, to show what others think of this awesome set of books...

"really packed full of recipes and information on juicing - as it affects and helps calm certain medical conditions. There are some who think that heredity is the #1 reason for cancer, but this book clearly explains that diet is the #1 reason because how can DNA be strong without good nutrition? How can new cells be built without the life giving force of vitamins and trace minerals? What made cells weak and toxic in the first place?, we hand down our diet from generation to generation!! What is heredity with cellular integrity? I cannot see how this book doesn't become a million dollar seller! I recommend this book highly.....Juice Power!!"

"I found this book set to be quite interesting and informative. I enjoyed this book immensely."

"If a person WANTS to get well - at all costs except another Doctor's visit, these books are invaluable. I was looking forward to the next 40 years in misery fighting chronic pain. This book was a great help in discovering what I needed to do to stop the cycle. I'm still sticking with green juice until I know for sure everything I can or cannot tolerate, but there is definitely a light at the end of my tunnel! Ouch!

When I hear or see "2010" printed somewhere, I can't help but thinking that 2020 isn't but a decade away, as the crow flies. Now don't get me wrong here; a decade, when your under 25, it can seem like an eternity away. For those of us approaching or at 40+ however, folks knee deep into the dreaded middle age, time doesn't pass so slowly at all. People in my age group and beyond no longer have the luxury of an "invincibility delusion" as young people do, nor a lightning speed, tip top, optimal immune system to keep us vital and thriving. Middle age is that time when - well, to be blunt - 100 years ago most of us died of old age.

In fact, a decade can pass so quickly when you're approaching middle age (and beyond) you can have a heart attack just from wondering where the time went. And so the question for anyone still sitting on the fence about maintaining and improving health becomes this: What will you be doing in 2020? Will you be alive and thriving? Will you require hospice, nurses and medical contraptions to stay alive? Will you be waiting to die, or will you be healthy as a pubescent ox, ready to combat any of the many diseases and conditions that - at around 40 or so years of age - start noticing you like you were the next James Cameron movie.

Factoid #2: Yes, I'm sorry to say it, but believe it; at or around 40 years of age you are officially lit up on the sickness/disease radar for the rest of your life.
It's the age old question (pun intended), once penned by the great Shakespeare, "To be healthy or not to be healthy" (I may be misquoting a bit there :))

I can feel what you're saying to yourself right now, oh fair and gentle reader ... "how depressing can one article be?" Well it's not meant to be all "foreboding", it's just that this needs to be said for anyone sitting on a fence that's about to collapse. Some people simply require one final wake up call, so I'm trying to be a very miserable, annoying alarm clock.

For those of you who think that what I'm saying makes perfect sense - yet you still can't find a single inclining to get on a good fitness program, or maybe you're the person who can't find enough money to buy a quality juicer (yet you can buy a Venti Latte every day at Starbucks), it is high time to stop deluding yourself and understand what neglecting your health will mean, in 10 years or so. The people avoiding this reality now are the same people that - in 10 or so years - when the doctor comes into the office with that somber test result and the "how do I give this crappy news" look on his face, they will be cursing an ignored past.

Here's why I mention 2020 only one month into 2010. Thing is, if you're coming upon middle age (or perhaps fully entrenched by it) you will start to ask yourself those preceding questions over and over - even without my assistance. Hopefully you will nag enough at your conscience that it becomes sickening beyond belief. Then perhaps you can start juicing for your health and getting in shape, just to spite yourself.

Why will these questions come up you may ask? It's simple. Middle age is that time when the phantom aches and pains start, pains that you've never felt in parts of your body you never knew existed. It's that time when you come home from a bowling game to find you've thrown out our back, permanently. It's the time when you have to ask your doctor why your knees creak and your bowels forgot how to move (or how to stop moving, respectively). It's when a practice round of tennis makes even your eyelids ache.

Here's some good news... in 10 years you can thrive and be as healthy as humanly possible. That is no joke, and no feigned optimism. Straight up facts, my fair and gentle readers. Get your health together now, and in no time you will be more prepared to fight the battles and ravages of aging (and your environment) than over 80% of the world's population. You can be part of the lucky few, that guy or girl that - God forbid - if diagnosed with something horrible - your doctor can confidently say "it may be bad, but your healthy enough to beat it". It's that, or you can end up in critical care on an iron lung, getting MRI's every few days, and waiting for the bomb to drop that you are about to die from whatever crap an unhealthy lifestyle has manufactured or promoted.

What's My Motivation?
Within the fundamental reality I've just written is an elemental motivation that may escape those of you who think change is impossible, and it is one you must now truly consider. Your loved ones. Yes, those people who care and love you will suffer right along with you if you fall ill, in fact more so, on certain levels. On top of the emotional suffering, I won't even get into the financial hardships a critical and/or worsening physical condition can mean to you and your family, but I will utter just 2 words on the subject... MASSIVE DEBT.

An Experiment:
This should only take a moment. Right now I want you to look at your spouse/your children/your dog or cat - anyone you love and who loves you back unconditionally. Go ahead, I'll wait. If they aren't close by then grab a picture or pull up some snapshots on your mobile. Now I want you to really look deep into the eyes that look back at you, examine the smile that was offered from that person who truly loves and adores you. Now I want you to take the time (while looking at them) to muse long and hard about what intense emotional and financial strain your unhealthy lifestyle could mean to them, come 10 + years from now.

OK OK, I'm pretty much done with the doom and gloom, and I'm hoping that by now at least you've come to understand full well that aging, sickness, and the ravages of time are multiplied exponentially from living an unhealthy life, from ignoring the techniques, guides and proven techniques available that can keep you healthy and more importantly, prepared to battle aging and disease.

In closing, here's a Juicing For Health kicker for you to think about when you reach the drive-thru window tomorrow. A thriving and healthy lifestyle is THE MOST IMPORTANT THING you can do for yourself and the people who love you, who care deeply for you, and who look to you for love, guidance, and support. Even if you can't muster the strength to do this for yourself, they desperately need you to do it, full stop. Yep. I know I know, time is literally flying by. It happens. More so when you're older, but it happens. You blink and an entire month has passed.

So, let me ask, have you given up your New Years Resolution yet? If you haven't, here's a disheartening statistic to make you cry long into the night... 78% of people give up their New Year goals within the first 2 months. That's not my statistic BTW, it belongs to an accredited study by that major English University we all hear about.

Without analyzing in detail why people give up so readily, here's my take on the infamous New Year's Resolution. It can be a rare and unique opportunity - once every year - to change your quality of life for the better, yet sadly an opportunity that 78% will miss out on from the simple inability to persevere.

So my first message of 2010 to all my fair and gentle readers is ... don't contribute to that statistic! Aside from the obvious reasons why you should keep at your goals, Oxford professors are entirely too smug to be proven right yet again.

Get back on the bus already! I mean how many more New Year's do we all have left to get it right, really? To stop working on your health goals now is to give up on yourself, and you're also telling your loved ones it's time to save up for that eventual open heart surgery and the consequent experimental drug therapies you'll be needing. Seriously guys (and gals!) get whatever help is necessary, stick to your guns, and most importantly keep at it. Impatience is for wimps and giving up on your health is just plain wrong on so many levels. Your frustration at not seeing immediate results should only motivate you to work harder, to get the proper tools, and to get moving more. Results will come, results you will be bloody proud of, and results that will make you feel and look 6507% better than you do right now. (That's my statistic :)) Trust me, time and time again during my tenure I've seen people change their lives starting with nothing but a new year, so don't give up now.

Without further adieu, here's 2 very important secrets to help you get the job done.

Secret #1... Persistence is the greatest secret to success in health, and in life.
So many people give a New Year's health resolution a month or so, then they look in the mirror and give up over the frustration that they don't look or feel any different. Some will wonder why after a few weeks they still feel like crap - and in fact worse - from missing the foods they crave, or from the sore muscles a proper work out gives your body. Thing is, these hurdles are exactly that which has been defined for hundreds of years as the "no pain, no gain" process, and it's the one process you can't avoid if you want true success.

These stumbling blocks are also the exact reasons for why the entire Western World is getting fatter, more unhealthy, and more complacent. People have become so riddled with the distractions of this, our modern and sedentary life. I submit right now that staying or achieving a healthy body today is harder than it has ever been in our history, but by no means is this a reason to give up.

So sorry but as of yet you can't swallow a magic pill and expect those excess pounds, bad cholesterol, e.t.c... to just disappear. You can't get the right nutrients or look and feel fantastic by simply wishing on a New Years star. You have to be patient, take in the right nutrients and put in the work. There is a necessary focus, discipline, a certain degree of self-sacrifice, and a strong mindset that is necessary for you to persevere through the doubt and the temporary reluctance to change. It is within that perseverance that will see you happy and damned healthy. Giving up should not even be a consideration, especially this soon after making one of the most important commitments you can make to yourself and for your loved ones.

Secret #2 to getting your groove back? ... A goal requires a detailed and proven plan of attack in order to have any chance of success.
A goal without a detailed and proper plan is nothing more than an ethereal dream. It's a movie score without the movie. It's Avatar without the tall blue people. If you're not on a program now to help guide you to success, get a system like The Diet Solutions Program or the Truth About Abs fitness regimen. (Click the links to have a look) I have sworn by these systems for some time now, and if you have read this blog before, you know why. Bluntly, they both work like gangbusters.

Conversely, if you happen to be one of "those people", the type of person that ran out on January 2nd to buy a gym membership - well firstly, you'll have to actually attend the gym before the membership starts to work! Having a laminated gym card in your wallet while you reach past it to the Visa card that pays for your second FAT BURGER... well, sorry but the gym card alone doesn't burn calories.

Secondly, get a good personal trainer, not some self important shmuck, but a well trained and helpful guru. Here's why: when your key strategy to everlasting health is to aimlessly walk around the gym for 45 minutes, playing with all the shiny machines yet having no clue what to do with them, you are not working out you are copping out. You're looking for a reason to give up, and that's bloody nonsense. Make sure to have someone show you what to do with those machines, and help you get the most from your time and effort. Put another way, if your goal was to learn how to fly a helicopter, would you jump in the cockpit, push the buttons, move the joystick for a while and then simply set to the skies? Going to a gym blind will give you the same end result as "self-taught helicopter flying"... inevitably you'll crash and burn. You need someone with certified skill and experience to teach you the protocols and the techniques to get the job done.

And so, in my ongoing effort to end any rant with some atypical Juicing For Health continuity, 2010 should be the end all/be all for you, if especially when getting healthy is something you desperately want or physically need. This is the beginning of the only 2nd decade of the only 2nd millennium the world will ever see. If that's not something prophetic and motivating for you, I don't know what else to say. There are only a few times in our lives when we can say, "this will be my defining moment". 2010 should be the year you swear you will lose unhealthy habits, fight the gravity of all that extra poundage, or maybe just to start feeding yourself good juicing fuel and not the junk that surrounds us every day. If that sounds like you, then you will need to do more than hope and pray for success. Like I said in secret #2, a goal without a proper defined plan is a failure waiting for time to pass. If you are trying to turn your 20 year old blender into a masticating juicer, stop the nonsense and get a proper Juicer. I rant about healthy living and how to properly achieve it time and again out of a singular passion, because my own life experience has taught me that 1) your health is the single most important thing you will ever own, and 2) you need proper tools to do the job of getting "healthy" right. Standing around wishing and hoping - without the requisite knowledge and skill set - while admirable it is quite useless. Bluntly, if that is your only strategy to gain better health, before long you won't need a juicer or a Diet Solution, you'll need a script for Prozac, some aggressive cognitive therapy, and maybe heart medication and/or daily insulin shots for your type 1 Diabetes. Proper nutrition combined with Juicing for Health and a good workout program is THE holy trinity of health. You simply can't go wrong by applying those three axioms in your everyday life. So get off the fence and in the game already, time's a wastin'.
Cheers!
P Clikhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13589512740591034949noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3779475967518738644.post-45042031238369995862009-09-20T16:36:00.000-07:002009-09-20T17:05:44.741-07:00To Pulp Or Not To Pulp? Herein is a quick point I need to make, one that I realized I should speak to after reading some old emails. The question is, as you may have guessed already, should we leave the pulp in our juices or discard it completely?

Here's the short answer. Yes and no. What - were you expecting something straightforward? This is the '00's people, nothing is simple anymore, just look at the health care crisis. Seriously though, I'll say it once: it is NOT wise to leave the pulp in your juices unless you are buying 100 % organically grown produce that you can verify has NOT ever been touched by the evil Pesticide/Chemical Beast of Doom. Furthermore, if you can't be sure of the "organic-ness", I would suggest you stick to a masticating juicer (one that employs gears) rather than a centrifugal juicer. (Look below the post or click here for some juicer options) You'll understand why in a moment or two.

As I was saying, there's a pretty straightforward reason for this. With normally purchased produce, that is - the stuff that has been chemically treated - you will obviously have these toxins living on your food, raising families, looking for work, having loud parties, and just basically doing what all the cool chemicals do. (Like causing cancer and turning your hair green) These imposing and insidious chemicals will always be prevalent on your produce, and can combine with vitamins and other nutrients as a centrifugal juicer merely chops them all up with the rest of the fruits and veggies. So, yes, they end up in your juice. Conversely, a gear juicer can get rid of most of these offending chemical "squatters" along with the pulp you throw away by combining these toxins with the fibers and pulp. This happens as the foods are crushed and masticated. Sure, some small amounts of nastiness can get left behind, but by throwing your pulp and not ingesting it, you can be assured you're doing the most to keep chemicals away from your digestion and body.

Again, separating the harmful chemicals from your juices is not really possible with a centrifugal juicer, since the mechanics of the juicing process involves merely slicing up the produce, thereby combining the entire produce item(s) into juice. This inevitably allows potentially harmful chemicals to intermingle with everything as it's chopped into tiny bits, and as a result - you may eventually turn a shade of lime green and become radioactive. (I'm kidding!!)

Using juicers that employ gears is definitely a better attempt to separate the harmful man-made toxins - again - simply by the mechanics of how it extracts juice. As opposed to chopping your foods into little bits, masticating gears will actually crush your foods. This allows the healthy nutrients to escape while that lousy chemical crud binds with the fibers and pulp that you eventually toss in the bin.

This may not seem fool proof, and in fact it isn't, but it will be the best bang for your buck if you are concerned about the pesticides and environmental toxins that exist in store bought/treated produce. If you're not concerned about these factors, good on ya. Should you grow toxic and a few extra limbs, I'm sure you can still get work as a superhero villain.

Really folks, as a general rule you should, if at all possible, stick to organically grown produce - stuff that you can verify as authentically organic. Bear in mind why I warn you to verify your produce is organic. The fact is that there are a few - though not many - shady markets that are known for throwing an "Organically Grown" sticker on anything. Believe it or not I have actually seen one on a bag of Doritos once. I'm not kidding.

At any rate, do the research and find out where your foods are coming from, and if you must use chemically treated produce, try to do your juicing with masticating juicers like the ones pictured below and linked here and here, respectively. Take some time to visit his site, it's a treasure of information!

Juice has long been popularized for its health benefits as well as its taste, but how much truth and real world benefit is there to juicing then... say... simply taking a multivitamin and buying store bought juice? The biggest and most important factor to this is something called “bioavailability”, which simply means how easily and proficiently the body can absorb the nutrients that’s being provided to it. Juicing has been found to be one of the most effective ways to transmit nutrients from source to body due to its' inherent freshness, and without all the food matter such as fiber that the body normally has to break down being present. This tends to promote the passing of vital nutrients instead of absorption.

This brings us to a key point here, fiber is extremely important to your diet, especially for maintaining a cleanse brought on by proper juicing. You simply don’t want to have fiber present when your juicing because you want all the vital nutrients to be fully absorbed and not blocked and passed by fiber. Hence the need to get your fiber from other sources like eating fresh fruit and veggies themselves and consume them without being juiced, and from whole grains, and other wholesome sources of fiber.

The other important factor here that contributes to overall “bioavailability” is the active and live enzymes present in the juice that contribute greatly to the absorption of juice after the fibrous material is separated. Store bought juices- even when lightly pasteurized - lose the vast majority of its enzymes due to their very delicate nature, and therefore most of the vitamins and nutrients still present in juice pass through your system with only minimal absorption, thus defeating its purpose (other than to provide a nice sugary beverage to enjoy). Also even if juice is not pasteurized or modified in any way, the active enzymes have a very short life span and die out quickly and should truly be consumed right after juicing for maximum benefit.

The reason vitamin pills and supplements don’t work too well is for similar reasons as the store bought juice, not only are these vitamins simply going into your system in the condensed form of a pill - thus lacking naturally occurring enzymes, they also are man-made or synthetic, and not nearly as beneficial as naturally occurring vitamins. So as you can see, juicing and then drinking fresh juice right afterward is truly the best way to get the most out of your juicing for health benefits, and it also tastes a lot better!

Cheers!
P Clikhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13589512740591034949noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3779475967518738644.post-20432141376300305192009-08-12T18:28:00.000-07:002009-09-04T15:05:46.597-07:00The Snake Oil Salesmen Are Hard At Work!Have You Heard About Acai Berry?

If you have, well, I'm not here to knock it's many potential benefits. I'm not here to tell you that it's a load of bull, nor that juicing with Acai berries can make you feel like you could throw a motorcycle 25 feet straight up in the air. However, when it comes to the many scams on the internet, the Acai Berry diets and concoctions have quite a few losers and unscrupulous websites attached, so beware.

Like I said, I'm not writing this as anything other than an overview of the potential health benefits of the acai berry. It is one of the most nutritionally dense fruits out here in the Great Big World. Arguably, it is extremely beneficial to heart health. It's even full of awesome superfood-ness, like Omega 6 and 9 fatty acids. These 2 fatty acids are to high cholesterol as a distorted guitar is to a Kenny G concert. So yes, I've done my research, and yes, there are levels of circumstantial and clinical evidence that Acai Berry Fruit may be all that (and a bag of juicers). ;)

My little tiny consumer warning is this: There are literally hundreds of unscrupulous offers being made online regarding this product. I bring this up after a few emails that ended up in my inbox. Mostly the emails were warnings by fellow trainers, but some were by readers that have been duped into one shady deal or another - deals that will keep charging you for a substandard product no matter what you do to cancel your order. One reader has yet to receive any product at all, after ordering some incarnation of an Acai Berry Diet - and it's been over 6 months.

If you're a regular reader, you know that I preach and preach how you are always so much better off heading to a trusted, authority site (Amazon anyone?) as opposed to scooping up some of the overly hyped, super sexy scam sites claiming they are offering the best deals on Acai Berry supplements, or any other weight loss and/or nutritional product. In the first place, authority sites are all about customer protection, in the second, they normally sell frikin everything, and thirdly, I have yet to be disappointed in my one preferred site - Amazon.

Acai, Resveratrol, and a few other notable vitamins and supplements have been in the news lately as potential weapons in the battle against anything from cancer to sun damaged skin. Whether or not they offer any benefit at all to your internal organs and/or your ability to fight disease is still up for debate, however I always say it's best to try something that has some plainly obvious nutritional value. The Acai berry/fruit has within it nutrients known for their generous health benefits. Having said that, it's no mental leap to suggest we should be buying it, eating it, and juicing it right along with broccoli, Oranges and Wheatgrass.

So, one last time, I'm not writing to promote Acai, or slam it's benefits. I've included some Amazon links here for you to check it out, but more to get you going to the right place to find it. This article is actually just to warn everyone I know and all my Uber Cool subscribers that the people/companies making wild claims and trying to sell you on some forced continuity Acai Berry Diet, well they are - by and large - knuckleheads. Snake Oil Salesman my fair and gentle readers, nothing more.

And so, this has been an official shout out to anyone that reads my small and humble site on the regular, because you should be warned.

Guys and gals, I'll say it yet again. When the offer seems too good to be true, believe me it is! That's right, this is a juicing for health site, and I'm stomping back to the old school. I'm saying that because of late, my posts have been more concentrated on weight loss than juicing. For those not needing to lose weight, sorry but I really had to take the opportunity to address the issue, since I was (and still am!) receiving tons of emails about juicing specifically for that purpose. So now, finally, I'm writing this to jump back full speed into the business of juicing, because after all, I live by the juice - and you should too. :)

I'll start today by offering an honest and comprehensive review of the Breville Juice Fountain Elite, my pick for the overall best juicer on the market today. I've mentioned it a few times on the site, but this time I'll really give you the "low down". Yep. Every fresh start at a topic deserves its' core ingredient be attended to first. Every house needs a foundation. Every dog has his day. Every.... ok, ok, I'll shut up already.

1st off, you need to know that the Juice Fountain Elite is my #1 pick over ANY other juicer currently on the market when price is a consideration. As mentioned, I preface this statement by letting you know there are better juicers, but they cost a tad more, especially if you buy the JFE through my links ($140.00 off!!). So when I say it's hands down the best, I mean that it's the best - in a value for your money sort of way.

Here's a list of reasons why this Breville unit is Super Cool, Unreal Freaky, and Awesome:

Reason 1: It has a 3-inch chute which means that many fruits and large veggies can be juiced whole. This helps a great deal for those that don't necessarily have time - or an inclining - to cut their portions correctly for juicing. Also, juicing whole fruits allows that more of the overall nutritional value of said food item can be juiced, and therefore consumed.

Reason 2: There are several parts to clean, but fear not, because most of these parts are dishwasher safe. This certainly adds to the appeal since most of us dread having to hand wash small parts.

Reason 3: If you get up early in the morning for a juice, your kids won't wake up startled and wonder why you've seemingly fired up your lawnmower in the kitchen. In other words, as juicers go, the Breville is a fairly quiet unit.

Reason 4: Editors at a popular product review company had tested 29 juicers, using various methods. They had basically processed 600 oranges, 10 pineapples, 150 beets, (and a whole slew of other fruits and veggies) and compared results. Out of these various brands, 2 Breville juicer models were hands down winners in almost every category. In fact they only lost points because of their weight and girth.

To that "girth" ^^^ criticism I say ... come on(!), juicers are not meant to be strapped around our necks like an I pod, they are meant to live on your counter-top for crying out loud. They're supposed to be big and beautiful, so that when you reach the kitchen every morning you are immediately sucked into its' gravity field. Sheesh, I thought we all knew that.

Reason 5: Forget bulky, the Breville JFE is nothing but Uber Sexy. Yep. It's stainless steel, which - to interior decor - is the new black. Get the Juice Fountain Elite and you will suddenly find yourself running to the appliance store to trade in every other appliance you own, for something in "stainless steel". Trust me, I did this last year and now even my can opener is of the "stainless" variety.

Expanding further on the test mentioned in reason 4, said testers were quite horrified to discover that certain very popular brands simply broke down during the process. How that matters to us is simple: if these heavily marketed juicers couldn't withstand one simple go around to gather data, they wouldn't last 3 months in your home. I'll play nice for now and not name these brands, but I can assure you they ARE some of the more popular (and more useless) juicer brands that we see every day.

All in all, the more expensive juicer models (like Breville and Greenstar products) have a significant and obvious advantage over pretty much anything from a catalog or on TV. That's not because they cost more, it's because they are meant for more robust usage and for a more serious juicing fanatic. More bang always costs more bucks, people. I can speak highly at a few top end products, those being the Breville Juice and Blend, and the Greenstar Juice Extractor. There are more products and companies that are truly awesome, but detailing them would take another article or 10. (BTW, click the links above to check them out)

One thing of utmost importance when considering juicers folks; if you are in the market, never, EVER go cheap because cheap breaks, cheap frustrates, and cheap can stop your progress when it's rendered useless by an overly ambitious pineapple recipe. Stick with the brands known to do the job over and over again. As I've mentioned, Breville (and Greenstar) are both companies worth their weight in gold.

Just for fun, and just because I'm hoping you are really a fanatic about juicing like I am, check out the Breville Mega Super Unreal Millennium Falcon Juicer. (That's not its' name, but it should be) It has a certain drool factor if you're a juice freak like I am :). As I've said somewhere, that thing could juice a Cadillac and still have enough "hudspa" to liquify your old hockey sticks. One good thing to know is that Amazon has these Uber juicers at $100.00 savings (again, if you click the link I gave that is ;)) Another great thing about the Juice and Blend is that it has a fully Uber Awesome blender attachment. So what might seem a tad expensive at first go is not really so steep - since you save on blender expenses.

Seriously, The Breville Juice/blend combo is a very advanced juicer and most people owning these models are already very serious about juicing, or they need to produce large volumes in short periods. Having said all that nonsense, this is the model I have and I just love it. Firstly, it will not ever quit. Secondly, if my BMW ever blows a gasket, I'm sure I have the replacement engine in my kitchen, right beside the microwave.

To conclude, for a reasonable cost there simply is no better juicer on the market than the Breville Juice Fountain Elite, in my opinion. You can look it over yourself (click the links), or as always, click on the fancy-shmancy pictures I always feel inclined to provide. You can buy it directly from my links at Amazon, (I've got the sweetest deals in existence;)) or by finding a brick and mortar store that carries Breville or Greenstar products. Either way it is a responsible and smart purchase if you are entering into the juicing lifestyle and want something that's both Uber Sexy and Uber Functional.

It makes more sense than having to CC an email to only those who email me. And yes, I've covered this topic once before (you can find it here) but repetition is sometimes the key to getting people to see the light.

OK, here is my advice, and it's based on years of training both serious athletes, Hollywood personalities, and normal folk like you and I. In the first place, anyone with expanding stomach issues needs to click here, or click the fancy "in post" graphic that is flashing between the "Truth About Abs" text and some enviable couple's amazing abs. Oddly enough the program IS called the Truth About Abs. (Go figure;)) Anyway, here's the thing: This program is 100% useful and effective - and it's available at a mind-numbingly serious deal. I mean it. Click the link now and grab it if you're worried about stomach fat - or if you're looking for a good workout and health maintenance program. It costs less than a few weeks of Lattes. Seriously. Your gut will thank you, your fridge door hinges will thank you, and your tailor will thank you (for all the extra work taking in your trousers ;)).

Now I'm not just going on and on about this program with my own self interest at heart. I happen to know this program works like gangbusters when applied. Truth About Abs is not just an "abs" program, it's an overall fitness regimen and it's worth it's weight in gold as both a fitness routine and as a nutritional guideline. It is the perfect jumping off point for anyone serious about getting healthy - and since most people start to notice fat around the mid-section first, it is perfectly topical. Obviously I really believe in this program or I would never steer you there. There is nothing I can do to help shed your stomach fat that this program cannot do. It's worth noting that since I charge up to 350.00 per week to train someone in a group, and 550.00 as a 1 on 1 coach, (using almost the identical principles found in that program) well there's not much else to say. It's a no brainer if you're reading this and want to shed the spare tire for the coming summer and beyond.

Secondly, there are a good deal of people emailing me that say they just hate gyms and refuse to join one. It's either an actual phobia, they despise being around all the gym rats, or they just have an understandable craving for privacy. So the inevitable question becomes this; "what can one get for home that will be the MOST effective fat burner?" The answer is to head to this link and get yourself a rowing machine. The one I've featured before is the Kettler Kadett Outrigger - I own one, and it is just awesome. German engineered, quiet as a peep, and easily the best bang for your home gym/workout buck. In fact I am staring at mine right now and thinking about rowing around in the ocean of my mind, while I listen to a new audio book. :)

Factoid: Rowing is one of only a few NO impact workouts that can actually build muscle tone in legs and back.

At this point you may be wondering, "why a rowing machine and not a treadmill?" Well, in the first place rowing is an excellent overall exercise with more fat burning potential than a treadmill, but more to my point, it's the only home gym equipment I've noticed time and time again that is consistently put to effective use. Treadmills are nice if you are partial to running ... umm... nowhere, and stationery bikes can work too - with the added benefit of being as boring as a rerun of "The Antique Roadshow". Also worth noting that it takes longer to burn calories on both the treadmill and stationery bike than you will burn using a rower (if you're doing both right), and it's much harder on your joints. Not to mention that normally people buying treadmills and stationery cycles end up using them more as glorified clothes hangers than as a fitness tool. Anyone that buys a treadmill is, in my opinion, in need of a quick glance out the front window. One pair of runners and access to the outdoors will save you a heckuva lot of money - and space inside your house.

It has continually been my experience in the fitness and training industry that rowing machines get more use than any other home gym item, with the exception of an actual home gym. Now, if you feel like buying a home gym, then all I can say is... please... DO IT! I have a Bowflex at home that I use in conjunction with my rower. The Bowflex is actually quite brilliant whether you are just starting to get back in shape or a serious fanatic like me.

Most serious gym-level equipment can get quite expensive and require heaps of real estate inside the home, which is why the Bowflex rocks. Besides, if you have the kind of money to get gym quality gear I would suggest you get cognitive therapy instead - to deal with your gym phobias. Counseling will cost you less than some gym equipment, just sayin'. Just do like I do, get a Bowflex for light to medium home workouts, and get to the gym when you are truly ready to shred. And just so you know, the Bowflex links I provide offer around $400.00 savings ($399.01!!!) off the regular price for a Bowflex home gym. (I gets me them serious Amazon deals don't ya know ;))

Anyway, back to the rowing machine. Here's my personal take on why they get used more than, say, the common treadmill:

They tuck under the bed/couch/kitchen table easy enough, and thus can come out whenever you feel like working up a sweat.

Rowing is excellent for instant stress relief.

Rowing won't ever stress your knee and ankle joints in the manner that running or cycling can.

It's almost too easy to just grab the trusty I pod, snag a play-list of your best tunes (or an audio book), and row your butt off for 45 - 60 minutes each day.

They give you an excellent aerobic workout while building strong core muscles.

The rhythmic nature of rowing has a certain meditative quality that I personally enjoy, and meditation helps literally every area of your life.

So for anyone out there that feels too threatened by those "ripped and curled" folks at the gym, or perhaps you just can't get easy access to a gym nearby, it doesn't have to be that frustrating. If you're feeling like it's too confusing to start, or too much effort to even begin, well, forget the information overload and get simple. Simple works folks. The reality is that much of what you see and hear about as "the latest and greatest thing" is nothing more than a whole lot of marketing speak designed to separate more money from your wallet than lbs from your midsection. Getting your body and health back is truly no harder than getting up and moving in the direction of whatever home equipment you own. The principle of inertia will do the rest, if you are serious. Therein is the real kicker, because you have to GET SERIOUS about the change to make it happen.

Make the commitment to yourself and to your loved ones. Get a juicer, juice every day - twice a day. Get some home gym equipment (or join a gym). Get a good workout program, get moving, get it together, and GET HEALTHY!

Now for some Juicing Recipes Quick Wheatgrass Combos!

Wheatgrass and celery with a splash of tabasco

Wheatgrass and parsley

Wheatgrass and orange juice (makes for a very interesting color ;))

Wheatgrass and mint

Wheatgrass and cucumber
